Transitioning with Incense

Transitioning with Incense

February 10th, 2022

Ritualistic tools in ‘transcending’ life; and yes, I mean “dying”, have included tools like burning dried medicinal plants.

WHAT IS THAT SCENT?!
Incense.. In mental balancing and wellness, it just makes SCENTS!

The first form of aromatic “therapy” was burning incense.  Therapy, meaning calming the nervous system, the mind and ‘fumigating’ large crowds from viral  pandemics.  Not a fan of being in a ‘smoking room’?  Light the incense and come back in 45 minutes to a velvety smooth aroma with a hint of whatever the scent was… Jasmine, Vetiver, Rose etc..

What does incense really do? How can breathing in smoke IMPROVE lung functionality, especially if lungs are damaged? Why do people ‘sage’ a room?  Can incense ever be toxic?

The toxicity comes from poor quality items and synthetic fillers. True and fine incense is pure dried plant matter.

Incense has been used for thousands of years to treat problems exactly like what we’re facing now.

Incense has been used during pandemics, times of stress and for spiritual and ritual uses because it supports a variety of issues:

  • Incense is used to disinfect and purify the air… (Historically combating viruses like the Black Plague, Spanish flu, and many other pandemic outbreaks)
  • Pure incense aromas support a deeper relaxation in spiritual practices and rituals that are grounding which can provide more comfort during challenging times.
  • Inhaling incense can balance the nervous system to calm nerves, reducing anxiety and even fear.
  • Strengthens the immune system protecting lung health, and if you get sick, the body’s natural healing ability will be more prepared to work more effectively..
  • Burning incense provides an uplifting environment through smelling gorgeous aromas.
  • At the end or beginning of one’s life, incense can ease the spirit in the direction of travel.

There’s a lot going on around the planet. A global pandemic. Political and social conflict. Effects of climate change, including massive wildfires.

Anxiety and stress levels are at all-time continued highs.

Aromatic plants have been used as preventative medicine, air purification, immune boosters, stress and anxiety detox, symptom control when people get sick, as spiritual aids, and for simple enjoyment and peace through countless pandemics throughout history.

..So why shouldn’t they work for us now? The plants haven’t changed.

Try using incense to maintain peace and healing wherever you are.

peace + love!

One For January

One For January

The best oils for the skin are without hesitation, Helichrysum, Frankincense together smothered in Jojoba.  WHY??
First… Did you know jojoba oil is actually a wax?  Did you know Helichrysum is a wizard oil on skin and bone tissue? Did you know Frankincense carterii (specific variety) has been proven to reduce tumors in horses?

Also… I had COVID (Omicron) the first week of January.. How did I handle things?

Let’s talk Jojoba first~ it’s extracted from the Jojoba nut tree but you can have a nut allergy and NOT be affected by it.  It forms a hardened wax when cooled.  It is a fantastic carrier of Essential oils, as it extends their absorbency in skin application. The shelf life?!  Forever.. Really!  It’s usually posted as ‘18 years plus.’  It simply hardens into a wax form again as a natural way of hibernating until needed.  I love LOVE to use it as a face wash.  Yes!  Drop a small palm, maybe silver dollar size amount into hands and smear all over the face and neck/chest area.  It’s a wonder on makeup and oily skin, awesome on beards (it’s the base of our beard oil!) and as you massage the skin, it actually dissolves dirt and excess oils on skin as it heals and soothes.

Add a bit of Frankincense and it’s incredible for supporting aging skin or skin that’s been irritated or even wounded.  We have it blended together for you in our “Frankincense in Jojoba” blend.  Frankincense has over 24 regularly used varieties.  We use THREE here at Savitur and sell TWO.  The variety that is used in skin care is of course the variety used in our Jojoba blend.  Use it as an after shower moisturizer or as a base with other desired aromatics.  I add Neroli to the Jojoba/Frank blend for my personal care regime.  I love the dance between floral and earthy!

Helichrysum is nicknamed “Immortelle” for the profound anti-aging properties in this highly intelligent plant.  The same properties that heal and repair skin cell damage, repair BONE DAMAGE!  This wizard oil, as I like to call it, is in our pain relief blends too.  It’s incredible to watch it dissolve bruising before your eyes.  I used it when I fractured a bone in my foot and wanted to avoid surgery so I could go on a motorcycle journey through the Himalayas with my teacher..  I did it!  It’s been my hero in all blends dealing with cell damage. TOPICALLY.  This is not an oil for internal

consumption.  It has a heavy grassy scent.  I would never diffuse it.  Not my favorite scent and it’s too expensive to diffuse for its best use.  Helichrysum is in our Face Spritz, Face Creams, scar repair and pain relief blends.  If I had only ONE oil for healing my body, it would be HELICHRYSUM.

On to Covid~ Omicron:
I am quite sure that my friends the Essential oils have had quite a barrier around me the last 2 years!  I make so many blends, I pour and resize pounds and pounds of aromatic treasures each week AND.. I really do live what I teach.  Daily I challenge my lungs with breathing techniques while inhaling specific oils for minimizing viral infections.  I limit items that I know my body rejects, like dairy and gluten.  When I am ‘down’ I limit my sugar and add 2-3 naps a day.  Yes, I work from home so I can do this.  All of this.  And I think that’s what the last two years have taught us all.
SELF CARE IS IMPERATIVE

I miss the lessons, quality time and ‘down and out’ experience a family can go through with childhood illness.  I don’t think avoiding sickness is healthy.  “Bonding time” can actually happen if we are set up for it. These are my findings of studying Ayurveda since 2013 but growing up in a western big pharma world.   Other than my extra nap time, one would not have known I had Covid.  That and the test.  I think 15 years ago as a fast food eating, closet smoking, stressed out mom.. I would’ve gotten truly sick.

So.. for January.. If ONE idea followed you through 2022.. I offer the lesson of self love.  Self care.  SELF!!!  Put on your oxygen mask of healthy habits so you can face all that comes your way as nature intended.  As you lean on IT, it supports YOU.

peace, love and Essential oils!

Some Wisdom for your lungs…

Some Wisdom for your lungs…

Some Wisdom for your lungs…

What do Conifer trees, winter solstice (in the N. Hemisphere), Christmas trees and health all have in common?  And why do I specify N. Hemisphere?

One word:  L U N G S
Lung power is important, especially in the colder temperatures.  We can build up phlegm and feel sluggish, like hibernating for weeks. Our lungs can easily build up fluid if proper health practices aren’t in place. Pneumonia, Bronchitis, COVID-19 and all varieties are affected greatly by the respiratory system.  Do steams with these treasures of nature and dissolve viral issues.  I have a friend in India that has had 100% success in KILLING the COVID virus rapidly with simple ‘towel over the head’ steams.  Amazing!
There is a saying in yoga, “trees that have deep roots and flexible limbs survive hurricanes”.  Think of the deep roots to trees such as, Firs, Cedarwoods, Spruces, Pines, Hemlock.

FYI~ Balsam Fir is not a ‘true’ Balsam. A Balsam is technically an oil extracted from a resin that contains benzoic or cinnamic acid. Officially Conifers are trees whose seeds are produced in woody cones with needle-like leaves and resinous wood

There are several different plant families you’ll find in the group of Conifers, as listed above.  The Conifer trees generally offer fresh-herbaceous-coniferous aromatic aromas. Their notes are uplifting, stimulating and invigorating. They can enhance our energy, stimulate circulation, improve motivation and even stamina. They are mentally refreshing and emotionally restorative. See why they are used so heavily November – February?  They help us get moving and infuse the spirit of ‘light’ in us, when things can feel dark.

The high ‘monoterpene’ components encourage a movement of energy in the body, which supports opening up the lungs and even the sinuses, which is highly supportive to overall vitality in the mind, body and spirit. This also means they can expire faster.  Keep them capped tightly, in a cool and dark place. NEVER IN THE SUNLIGHT.

So diffuse those holiday blends when it’s cold! Add 1-2 drops per Tablespoon of carrier (like Jojoba, Sesame or Olive.. NOT coconut) and massage onto achy tired muscles.  Avoid the face but scalp application lightly is divine. Stay in the hairline.  Want to create a chest rub? Add 1-2 drops into 15 mL of carrier and add 1 drop of Eucalyptus. Ahhhhhh breathing will feel unrestricted and emotions will balance.

All of our holiday blends have Conifer oils, to enhance your physical and emotional wealth during the busiest time of the year, in the ‘modern’ time.

Tis The Season

Tis The Season

T’is the season… WHAT SEASON?

The month of December is traditionally a very diverse season. For some it is a season of hibernation. For many it’s a time to connect with family and friends. For MOST it becomes a time of stress.  Often the stress is brought on by doing things we don’t feel a connection to do.

OH WHAT TO DO?!

Sprinkle some Holiday Pine Cone or Wisdom into the air…

Yes seriously…

When I created Wisdom, it was for a gorgeous mountain spa in Manitou Springs, Colorado.  They wanted a scent that reflected the rocky mountains, while being soothing.  Balsam Fir of course was the base; then I decided a high elevation Lavender would go along great and to top it… Laurel nobilis would tie it together with a soft sweetness.  Each of these oils on their own have distinct personalities. And together? Like an orchestra, a complete new experience!  I took one sniff and named it Wisdom!  Immediately I felt a strong intuition, like the energy of a very old tree. Wise!  I love to smell it out of the bottle, sprinkle it in my car or diffuse it near my artificial holiday tree as though the tree is exuding the amazing scent. Sore muscles? Add 1-2 drops to a silver dollar size amount of Jojoba or Olive oil and massage it in.  As an analgesic, the relief is felt immediately.  Need to ground into quick wisdom?

Be sure to check out this blend while it’s on sale..

Get a bigger one.. You’ll use it all year ‘round.

Do you need to ‘lighten up’?!

Holiday Pine Cone ~ It’s like a cheery giggle in a bottle.

Remember making decorated pine cones?  That was my inspiration!  In fact, a great use (or gift!!)  for this blend is to dribble drops over a few pine cones and set them in a room for decoration and a passive infusion of Balsam Fir, Cinnamon and Wintergreen!  Did you know Wintergreen has many similar components to Aspirin?  Cinnamon is a circulation stimulator.  So again, not just in the diffuser but add a drop to a carrier oil and massage into achy muscles and feel the smile twinkle back into your eyes, feeling the magic of this season.

No need to stress. Use the mystery of aroma to bring back that child like excitement every time you open a bottle.

Happy Holidays!

peace + love,
Somah
A day of Gratitude…

A day of Gratitude…

NOVEMBER 25th

A day of Gratitude…

In my world.. It ALL begins here. A grateful heart…

For the amazing journey of humanity and ALL of it’s rawness. The ‘good, bad, exciting and confusing..’

When I can settle my heart into the Art of NOT Knowing.. I seem to actually calm down the “over busy” mind.

HOW THE HECK  does one ‘settle’ the heart in a world with such opposition?
You ready for it??  Ahh, yes.. INHALE an Essential oil.  Choose Grapefruit (any citrus oil) or Bergamot and deeply breathe in. Hold your breath and exhale.  Do that 4 more times.  Maybe Rose oil is ‘your jam’ or something earthy like Patchouli or Vetiver?

Get into a state of consciousness that feels like it brings kindness into your eyes.  From THAT state of awareness choose to look at your life.  Realize how it’s always working out for you.  Life is ALLways whispering through intuition and synchronicity.  Essential oils work with the limbic system and this gives us a chance to interrupt patterns that we desire to change, while introducing habits we’d like to form.  ALL WITH SMELL & SCENT.  I am thankFULL for that wisdom. Wanna learn more?  Register for this 21 day dive into establishing a change of habits HERE.

Our DIY packages give you the tools and wisdom to customize your blends.  This will give you confidence in the future to experiment with new options.

Our “CLASSIC” oils will be perfect to get started.
