WHAT ARE TWO COMMONLY USED ESSENTIAL OILS?

WHAT ARE TWO COMMONLY USED ESSENTIAL OILS?

WHAT ARE TWO COMMONLY USED ESSENTIAL OILS?

And why?   Can they be used on the skin and with kids.. How about those with a compromised immune system?

One is very camphorus, (dissolves mucus) the other, OFF THE CHART with d-limonene a powerful antiviral.  Any guesses??
Imagine the aroma of a wet rainforest that is producing a citrus scent.  Mmmmmm, the very thought initiates healing in my body immediately!
Let’s talk about WHAT/WHY these two are such a great pair in ‘November’!
‘d-Limonene’ is a component in both oils. It’s clinically proven to activate white blood cells and is antibacterial as well as antiviral.  Orange and Grapefruit oils contain the highest percentage of this amazing health wizard!  Cold and flu season are up in November, keep these two at bay!
‘Cineole 1,8’ is a component in Eucalyptus globulus, that dissolves mucus, “mucolyctic”. It’s high in camphor. This is outstanding for phlegm build up in the lungs and even joints of the body!  Don’t use it IF an acute asthma attack is happening.  It’s super for prevention of lung issues.

There are THREE types of Eucalyptus we have at Savitur… this is the #1 MOST COMMON Essential oil in the medicinal cabinet! And this is the species.  Globulus, the most camphorous of the three.

Most cold pressed Essential oils are phototoxic.  Sweet Orange is NOT!  That means you can add it to your body creams for a fresh scent and not only will your skin be okay.. You’ll boost immune properties while uplifting your mood, with it’s citrusy aroma.  Kids love it and there are no contraindications for elderly or those on medications.

Here are two easy immune boosting recipes:
(safe for kids too!!)

CHEST RUB
30 mL Olive or Jojoba oil
3 drops Eucalyptus globulus
4 drops Sweet orange
Apply liberally to chest/back or over achy joints

Citrus Rainforest diffuser blend
8 oz water in diffuser
4-5 drops Orange
3-4 drops Eucalyptus

July 17th blog

hOMe from India.. This is my reason for a later blog on July oils.. I am at the airport as I write you…

TEA TREE AND CYPRESS~ featured oils of July

Both oils were used twice “in an emergency” while in India the past 7 weeks. First because I got burned (large muffler burn) and then because an AMBULANCE hit me.. Ummmm not a speeding siren blasting Ambulance. One that was likely on their phone and not paying attention.

The driver should have had Cypress on their skin or in the vehicle.. LOL.. it would keep one alert to such things as a person on the side of the road!

And yay to Tea tree for treating my potentially infectious wounds, in a dirty environment like India!! I made a quick spray of Rose hydrosol and Tea tree. Applied 4-5X daily and voila! Great antibacterial spray on the go. Yup I did add lavender to it and PURE drops of Vetiver, thick and neat, like a paste and whoa was it healing. Some days I used Patchouli and others I used a blend of Jojoba and Sandalwood. I was in the perfect place to do my own healing.

Both July oils go into the Bajrang Deo-EsScents that we’ve discontinued. Why did we do that? It was due to unsustainable Palo Santo since COVID..

GREAT NEWS THOUGH…. I’ve brought home a new oil (will tell you about it in August) that will replace that blend. Still working on the name!

Cypress is a gorgeous citrusy mountain fresh fragrance and when blended with Laurel, Tea Tree and a fine Kashmir Lavender.. Mmmmmmm, uplifting and invigorating. Cypress has strong antiviral properties and acts as an astringent on the skin. Super for preventing ingrown hairs, so, AWESOME in a beard oil blend!

Could I have used Cypress on my wounds? Not the burn, Lavender was BEST immediately as it never blistered because of that application. Maybe the scrapes after the road rash, but only if it’s a last resort. OVER scabbing can also irritate skin and invite an infection. It’s a lovely add in, to a deep woodsy massage blend and promotes circulation and reduces inflammation and pain in the muscles.

Some changes to the website to IMPROVE your experience coming…

Buggin’ Out on Oils

Buggin’ Out on Oils

June 28, 2022

June 28, 2022

What IS that scent?  That aroma of ‘bug repellent’?  WHY do bug sprays smell like that…. even chemical based candles smell like a citrusy pungent sharp blast?

C I T R O N E L L A

Eucalyptus citriodora has a very similar scent and is often used in cleaning. It’s better around pets and safer on skin.  Citronella is best for adding to candle wax or in a diffuser, less on the skin. Heavily diluted if skin contact.

Patchouli and Lemongrass work on skin in a pinch too. Try dabbing a drop on the backs of your knees and inner elbow as you set up that tent or prepare the back yard for a BBQ.  The mosquitoes will avoid you!

“Citronella oil is an essential oil obtained from the leaves and stems of different species of Cymbopogon. The oil is used extensively as a source of perfumery chemicals such as citronellal, citronellol, and geraniol. …Wikipedia”

Keep this variety away from your pets, as it can be toxic as a plant. Use it sparingly around animals and if they remove themselves from the room altogether, let that be a sign it is too intense for them!

This is not an ingestible oil. Besides the fact I think it would taste terrible..

What if you happen to make a bug spray and it goes in your (or child’s mouth)? I don’t think you have to worry. Swish the mouth with some coconut oil and that will immediately change the flavor and remove the oil.  Don’t use water!

Here’s a quick spray idea:

1 oz spray bottle

30 mL (1 oz) Geranium or Lavender hydrosol (or distilled water)

6-15 drops Citronella oil

1 tsp vodka or vinegar (w)

Swirl & spray: lawn furniture, tents, sleeping bags, clothing, anything you desire to repel bugs and deter them from your fun!

Peace, love & healthy skin!

Oils for Summer Temps

Oils for Summer Temps

June 18th, 2022 Blog

As summer steams up there are two common ‘problems’.
Bug bites and nausea!

The bugs love the heat along with our juicy human flesh and blood. Nausea can set in when the external temperature rises. Motion sickness from road trips are common with both children and adults, especially in the mountains on winding roads in arid environments, causing dehydration; which accelerates this form of vertigo.

WHAT CAN AN ESSENTIAL OIL DO… (like really do?)
If you’ve been reading my blogs, you’ve heard of the olfactory and limbic systems.. How does smell work?

Molecules enter through your nose and land high in the nose; from there a nerve cell takes that information and sends it to the brain. The complex nerve cells interact with the molecules and read the information and the brain translates. The Nobel prize was recently awarded to this being proven scientifically. The ‘Olfactory Epithelium' is the spot where millions of nerve endings connect. Aromatic molecules land here and then become decoded. An oil that has been manipulated (adulterated) can be confusing to the limbic system. (when the isolates of components, etc are rearranged for trademark purposes)

Essential oils do not go to the brain, the molecules do.
Molecules we inhale go into the lungs.
The nose inhales and the brain interprets.

Inhaling Spearmint oil is a glorious option when dealing with nausea or deep fatigue. It is outstanding when added to a carrier oil for relieving an upset stomach and then applied topically on the belly. Diffusing it with Lavender or Orange is an incredible uplift too!

Aromatically, Citronella is a favorite to diffuse and keep bugs at bay… more on that later this month for our second blog post of June.

Stay cool and enjoy the heat of summer!

WHY INDIA?

WHY INDIA?

May 27th 2022 Blog

I am in India until the middle of July… WHY OH WHY?  Do I go there for my education? Why India? What about health & food issues, poverty and overpopulation? And in the summer when it’s gorgeous in Colorado?  #wth

In my opinion, you can find chaos ANYwhere!  New York City, Guadalajara México, Thailand, and more…  There is an organization to the chaotic lifestyle of India.  I generally spend my time in the sleepy northern part of Rishikesh where it’s known to be a Yogi town.  It’s alcohol and meat free.  Travelers come from all over the world on an inner pilgrimage to soul shine and find a deeper meaning to life.  It’s quite a beautiful energy in a person, as they unwind social dogma.

The Peppermint and ‘Himalayan’ Geranium, both featured this month, come from India.  The ancient practices and heirloom seeds cannot be matched.  There is a unique pride in work, that I find unmatched.  India even has it’s own time zone.  Did you know that? It’s 11.5 hours ahead during daylight savings and 12.5 hours ahead on standard time, from Colorado. Exactly ½ way around the globe.  Yup, they are off of everyone in the world by 30 minutes. So strange!  And so wonderful!

We have access to more and more education and in many ways we are returning back to medicine that grows from the earth and science that can be felt from the stars.  Vedic astrology was always the science kings relied upon, it’s evolved in so many ways but it’s inception was also in India.  It’s this cosmic science I am studying in India this time.  I’ll be able to offer guidance on scientific aspects of who you are and the timing of things in your life.  It’s quite fascinating.  Book a discovery call and let me introduce you to yourSELF in a way you’ve always wanted to be seen.. The truth of who you are, not the stories of what’s evolved.  If you cannot find an opening in my calendar,  message me personally and I’ll get you set up!

India is the motherland of wisdom in my opinion..

Transitioning with Incense

Transitioning with Incense

February 10th, 2022

Ritualistic tools in ‘transcending’ life; and yes, I mean “dying”, have included tools like burning dried medicinal plants.

WHAT IS THAT SCENT?!
Incense.. In mental balancing and wellness, it just makes SCENTS!

The first form of aromatic “therapy” was burning incense.  Therapy, meaning calming the nervous system, the mind and ‘fumigating’ large crowds from viral  pandemics.  Not a fan of being in a ‘smoking room’?  Light the incense and come back in 45 minutes to a velvety smooth aroma with a hint of whatever the scent was… Jasmine, Vetiver, Rose etc..

What does incense really do? How can breathing in smoke IMPROVE lung functionality, especially if lungs are damaged? Why do people ‘sage’ a room?  Can incense ever be toxic?

The toxicity comes from poor quality items and synthetic fillers. True and fine incense is pure dried plant matter.

Incense has been used for thousands of years to treat problems exactly like what we’re facing now.

Incense has been used during pandemics, times of stress and for spiritual and ritual uses because it supports a variety of issues:

  • Incense is used to disinfect and purify the air… (Historically combating viruses like the Black Plague, Spanish flu, and many other pandemic outbreaks)
  • Pure incense aromas support a deeper relaxation in spiritual practices and rituals that are grounding which can provide more comfort during challenging times.
  • Inhaling incense can balance the nervous system to calm nerves, reducing anxiety and even fear.
  • Strengthens the immune system protecting lung health, and if you get sick, the body’s natural healing ability will be more prepared to work more effectively..
  • Burning incense provides an uplifting environment through smelling gorgeous aromas.
  • At the end or beginning of one’s life, incense can ease the spirit in the direction of travel.

There’s a lot going on around the planet. A global pandemic. Political and social conflict. Effects of climate change, including massive wildfires.

Anxiety and stress levels are at all-time continued highs.

Aromatic plants have been used as preventative medicine, air purification, immune boosters, stress and anxiety detox, symptom control when people get sick, as spiritual aids, and for simple enjoyment and peace through countless pandemics throughout history.

..So why shouldn’t they work for us now? The plants haven’t changed.

Try using incense to maintain peace and healing wherever you are.

Some Wisdom for your lungs…

Some Wisdom for your lungs…

Some Wisdom for your lungs…

What do Conifer trees, winter solstice (in the N. Hemisphere), Christmas trees and health all have in common?  And why do I specify N. Hemisphere?

One word:  L U N G S
Lung power is important, especially in the colder temperatures.  We can build up phlegm and feel sluggish, like hibernating for weeks. Our lungs can easily build up fluid if proper health practices aren’t in place. Pneumonia, Bronchitis, COVID-19 and all varieties are affected greatly by the respiratory system.  Do steams with these treasures of nature and dissolve viral issues.  I have a friend in India that has had 100% success in KILLING the COVID virus rapidly with simple ‘towel over the head’ steams.  Amazing!
There is a saying in yoga, “trees that have deep roots and flexible limbs survive hurricanes”.  Think of the deep roots to trees such as, Firs, Cedarwoods, Spruces, Pines, Hemlock.

FYI~ Balsam Fir is not a ‘true’ Balsam. A Balsam is technically an oil extracted from a resin that contains benzoic or cinnamic acid. Officially Conifers are trees whose seeds are produced in woody cones with needle-like leaves and resinous wood

There are several different plant families you’ll find in the group of Conifers, as listed above.  The Conifer trees generally offer fresh-herbaceous-coniferous aromatic aromas. Their notes are uplifting, stimulating and invigorating. They can enhance our energy, stimulate circulation, improve motivation and even stamina. They are mentally refreshing and emotionally restorative. See why they are used so heavily November – February?  They help us get moving and infuse the spirit of ‘light’ in us, when things can feel dark.

The high ‘monoterpene’ components encourage a movement of energy in the body, which supports opening up the lungs and even the sinuses, which is highly supportive to overall vitality in the mind, body and spirit. This also means they can expire faster.  Keep them capped tightly, in a cool and dark place. NEVER IN THE SUNLIGHT.

So diffuse those holiday blends when it’s cold! Add 1-2 drops per Tablespoon of carrier (like Jojoba, Sesame or Olive.. NOT coconut) and massage onto achy tired muscles.  Avoid the face but scalp application lightly is divine. Stay in the hairline.  Want to create a chest rub? Add 1-2 drops into 15 mL of carrier and add 1 drop of Eucalyptus. Ahhhhhh breathing will feel unrestricted and emotions will balance.

All of our holiday blends have Conifer oils, to enhance your physical and emotional wealth during the busiest time of the year, in the ‘modern’ time.

THANK YOU once again for subscribing to this newsletter and supporting Savitur Botanicals.
