ANCIENT PLANT WISDOM

This month in April, to celebrate 420, Savitur Botanicals took the substance free approach, and has featured the sensational product Feel Free, by Botanic Tonics.  It’s an herbal tea sweetened with pineapple juice and Stevia. It’s made with Kava and Kratom.

Kava root and Kratom leaf are two natural plants that have been used for centuries for their various health benefits. Kava root is known for its calming and relaxing properties, which can help reduce anxiety and promote better sleep. It has also been shown to be effective in reducing symptoms of depression and promoting a sense of well-being. Kratom leaf, on the other hand, is known for its energizing and stimulating effects. It has been used to improve focus, increase energy levels, and reduce fatigue. Kratom leaf has also been shown to have pain-relieving properties, making it a popular choice for individuals with chronic pain.

Overall, both kava root and Kratom leaf are natural supplements that can support overall health and well-being in different ways.

Enjoy an uplifting beverage without the booze or hangover. Use this herbal supplement to promote clarity and inspiration. Add this to your Ayurvedic lifestyle.

WHAT IS AYURVEDA?

Ayurveda is an ancient system of medicine originating from India, that uses natural and holistic approaches to healing.

One of the main reasons to use Ayurveda in natural healing is that it takes a whole-person approach to health and wellness, considering an individual’s physical, mental, and emotional well-being. Ayurveda emphasizes the importance of balance and harmony within the body, and seeks to identify and address the root causes of illness rather than just treating symptoms.

Additionally, Ayurvedic remedies are often derived from natural sources such as herbs, spices, and minerals, making them gentle and non-invasive.

By incorporating Ayurveda into natural healing practices, individuals can achieve optimal health and well-being through personalized, holistic approaches.

WHAT IS A HYDROSOL?

How is it different from an Essential oil?

HOW DO YOU USE HYDROSOLS?

Why use a hydrosol rather than an Essential oil?
Did you know that Savitur is featuring both the Vetiver and Champa hydrosols for the month of MARCH?!  How are these two aromas complementary to each other?

As plant matter is distilled via steam, the first fluid that forms is ‘plant water’.. The condensation from the steam created from heating the plant matter is cooled in a channeled tube and water, aka hydrosol, drips into the container used for capturing this ‘floral (plant) water’.  As it forms, a small layer of oil builds on the top of the fluid.  This oil is the concentrated components of the plant matter known as an Essential oil. For approximately every kilogram of hydrosol distilled, about 1 gram of oil forms.  The hydrosol contains the intelligence of the plant matter but at a highly diluted concentration.  This is perfect for spraying on the face or body and wonderful for those that are highly sensitive to aromas or for medical reasons.  Essential oils are POTENT and caution should be used with children and elderly. Hydrosols are an amazing simple solution when in doubt of safety.

CHAMPA~ A fragrance of magnolia.  So sweet and innocent.  This uplifts any mood and serves beautifully as a towel/linen spray.  Champa is a perfect replacement for Rose hydrosol as it’s nourishing to the skin and offers a decadent floral soft note.  Use it when making face/body creams!

VETIVER~ Deep, grounding and woody. Much lighter in scent than the oil.. MUCH!
Vetiver is calming to irritated skin, be it aging and mature or highly oily; it’s very adaptogenic and a lovely go to any season. The aroma is quieting to the mind; great for overactive emotions or just before bedtime.  Children enjoy the gentle hint of earthiness as it feels safe and soothing to the nervous system.  Spray it with Champa and enjoy the opposite sensations of uplifting and grounding.

FUN USAGE HINTS:
  • Just before bed~ spray pillows with Vetiver and the comforter with Champa
  • After washing face spray Vetiver directly on face, then add favorite moisturizer
  • After showering and adding lotion/oil to body for moisturizer, spray body with Champa, get dressed and spray clothing one more time with Champa
  • After styling hair spray a light amount of Champa or Vetiver to hair for ‘beachy’ look to locks
  • After putting on PJ’s.. spray material with Vetiver (flannel or satin holds scent best!!)
  • Spray yoga mat with a combination of Champa/Vetiver just before doing a class
Enjoy the many uses of hydrosols and know that you are safe and still getting medicinal value from the plants magic!

Why, you have got some nerve!! WHAT’S A NERVINE?

Central
Nervous
System
S E D A T I V E

Both February oils are supportive to the central nervous system. (CNS)
This means they are used to enhance a calm disposition as life throws challenges our way.  Some common adjectives are “antidepressant, analgesic, immunostimulant, anti inflammatory..”  This is the definition of a nervine Essential oil…

Clary sage always has a high percentage of linalyl acetate. The amount of linalool can vary significantly depending on the country of origin. (Bulgaria, India & France) Ours comes from France.  The components mentioned are what produce a calming effect in the brain.
Aroma: Distinctive, sweet, deep, woody, and herbal. Look for thick-like, deeply grassy/hay, woody/cedar, and balsamic notes. Clary Sage is quite complex. Because of these shared constituents, clary sage blends very well with lavender and mandarin and adds its own unique herbal character to any duo.

It’s used as a middle note and its flower buds are the plant part that is steam distilled to produce the Essential oil.

Mandarin is one of the best oils known (along with Spearmint) for nausea. If the nausea comes from food poisoning, overeating, or a stomach flu, Mandarin is your go to oil.
Of all the citruses, Mandarin is the best choice for children (and adults love it, too). Most people love the bright aroma and it enhances great immune support (and reduces anxiety—what a perfect combination!) The oil is antibacterial and antiviral, which means it’s perfect for an inhaler to help children stay healthy around other kids in school.  Even though it’s a citrus oil it’s NON phototoxic, so use it in those body & face creams for a fresh fragrance!  Along with it being emotionally uplifting, it’s a fantastic digestive when used in a massage blend topically.

Two EZ blends to make at home:

Inhaler for Depression
7 drops Mandarin (Citrus reticulata)
5 drops Clary Sage (Salvia sclarea)
3 drops Geranium (Himalayan)
Add to an inhaler.  Message us for further information
Aromatically uplifting
To a diffuser (6 – 10 oz water)
5-7 drops Mandarin
2-3 drops Clary Sage
Enjoy these two oils.. And be sure to let us know how you best use them together!
Peace + love!
